Newborn Photography Northern VA | Top 10 Newborn Essentials

I get a lot of questions from expecting mothers what baby items I would recommend, so I figured I’d share my top 10 newborn must haves on today’s blog post!

  1. Boppy

I don’t think I ever nursed without this pillow. The baby is just so tiny that having him propped up properly is a huge help to ensuring he latches on correctly and stays latched on. It also took a lot of the work out of it for me, which is a win-win for an exhausted new mom.

2. Medela Breast Pump

With my insurance I was able to order this pump which was covered, but with a small fee, I could upgrade to the travel pump, which I did. I went into my pregnancy determined to breastfeed and I knew having a pump was so important. I LOVED this one and so glad I got the travel bag so I had it handy when ever I needed to pump.

3. Nursing Bra or tank top

Nursing bras are a MUST. When you’re nursing, there’s no taking your bra off at night. You have to wear some sort of support 24/7. So it needs to be very comfortable and supportive. I wore this nursing tank top around the clock the first few months and continued wearing it at night until I quit nursing. I loved everything about it.

4. Baby Monitor

As a new mom, I was doing research on monitors, and I thought I needed the most safe and fancy monitor, but after a few months I figured out the hard way that the $300 monitor I purchased was not worth the money, and I fell in love with this one on amazon because it was simple and easy.

5. Baby Carrier

This is a must when traveling or when you’re out and about and don’t want to bring the stroller. This also is adjustable, so dad can help carry baby as well, allows baby to sleep and be comfy. My favorite here.

6. Baby swing

This is one of the most basic swings out there, but it does the trick just as well as any of the others. I had no idea how much newborn babies would need to be bounced and moved to be soothed. We could put my son in this swing and he’d fall asleep within seconds. I never could have guessed how much we’d rely on such a simple item, as seen here.

7. Swaddle Blankets

Why doesn’t anyone emphasize how much new parents will rely on swaddling those first few months? For the first 6 months my son didn’t sleep unless he was bundled up like a burrito. We used the normal swaddle blankets which he got out of all the time, but when I came across these, it made swaddling so easy!

8. Diaper Bag

Having a diaper backpack saved my life. I originally got a side bag that went over my shoulder but it would always fall off of me and it just was not very comfortable when you’re out and about carrying a baby. This backpack I love because it has so many compartments and I love the style of it. I love how I could use this even after my child got older. Win win for me!

9. Stroller

I feel like I have a love hate relationship for strollers, there are so many brands and pricing ranges are from low to high. I ultimately found this one which was great for transitioning from infant to toddler. I also love the jogger because the tires seem to last longer with being more durable than the normal tires on other brands.

10. High Chair

So for this one I HIGHLY recommend something that is easy to clean. We originally purchases a cheap fabric high chair, but cleaning it was such a pain! So I ended up splurging on this chair because it was all plastic and was so easy to clean!

I hope this helps when trying to the right products for you newborn baby! I obviously could go on and on which products I like, but for now these are my favorite by far!
