Sweet Fall Family Session at Algonkian Park | Northern Virginia Family Photographer
Another beautiful family session on the blog. This sweet fall family session at Algonkian Park was definitely one for the books. With all the beautiful fall colors, who could not resist running and throwing leaves in the air. It’s impossible to not just be a “kid” for a second and enjoy the surroundings.
I quite often hear from mom’s saying their child is uncontrollable and SO hard to capture decent images. When I hear this, I think to myself, “Challenge accepted” lol. Okay yes, every child is going to be wild and uncooperative but my secret to capturing great images of your kids, is not trying to get them to “pose” but encouraging them to do fun activities like jumping in leaves, or climbing rocks. Kids realistically will last a good 10 minutes and be done. With these types of sessions I typically start with kids just exploring the grounds. They are in a new environment and kids get SO excited being outdoors, they don’t want to just stand there and smile. So letting them explore and showing me cool things like rocks and sticks is so much more enjoyable than forcing them to smile.

She set up an initial consult during which we talked about my vision for the pictures and she showed me some of her previous work. I was immediately sold! We communicated leading up to the photo session and she helped me finalize our outfits. She was super punctual, brought props to help with my rambunctious toddler, and was just super calm and attentive throughout the whole process. She scheduled a final "live" reveal of all the pics, and I was blown away with how amazing they were! My son was literally ALL over the place during the session, and I kept thinking "how are we going to get any pics!?!?" but we've got some AMAZING shots that we will cherish forever. Top Northern Virginia most amazing locations for Family Sessions | Northern Virginia Family Photographer
Northern Virginia is one of the best places to photograph, and truly the top place that offers location diversity. From farms, fields, city, lakes and even WINERIES! So many choices to choose from, sometimes it can be a little overwhelming! But I’m here to save the day!
Sit back and relax, and enjoy your cup of coffee, while I tell you my top 5 favorite locations to shoot at and WHY!
Manassas Battlefield is probably my go to and all time favorite location to shoot at. I love the open field, gives you so much space and spots to shoot at. Definitely won’t disappoint. This field preserves the site of two major American Civil War battles, which is so interesting, the stone house is historic and such a beauty to see!
Next on the list is Meadowlark Botanical Gardens! This location is one of the top wedding locations to shoot at, and also amazing for family photos! The light here is just to die for, just like the one I photographed for this family session!
Stone Tower Winery is also on the list of top locations to have your wedding! The Harvest Barn is wonderful family friendly Tasting Room. The grounds of the winery is completely breathtaking. Also who doesn’t love a good place to enjoy some good wine and company!
Ida Lee Park is one of the most popular places to shoot at, not only does it hold fun activities to enjoy with the family. This beautiful location has unique spots to photograph including a barn and garden. This allows more space for the kids to run around and explore, which is my kind of jam!
This hidden gem is one of my favorite locations to shoot at during spring. If you have a green thumb then this place should definitely be on your list of places to be photographed at. This place is photogenic, easy to get to, and has plenty of parking – even on cloudy days this location brightens your day, like this family’s session.
