Northern Virginia Cake Smash Photography Session featuring baby Estelle

How adorable is this Northern Virginia Cake Smash Photography Session with baby Estelle? Milestone sessions are one of my favorite sessions to capture. It’s that fun age when they are learning to walk and talk and SO curious with everything around them.

My biggest advice I could give for parents when booking a Northern Virginia Family Session and Cake Smash Session is to not expect anything to go right. You heard me! When they get to that age (one year old), this is when they become more vocal of what they like and dislike. So for cake smashes, not every kids will be excited to have a full cake and dig into it. But no matter how the child reacts to it, just know, happy or not these memories are worth capturing and you can later on share these memories and have a good laugh.

Tips for picking the perfect cake. This is VERY important. Simple is key! I would steer away from fondant because that’s really hard for a little one to get into. Highly suggest frosting because that’s easy for the little ones and makes a good photo op! If you have a theme for the session I would suggest getting your cake to match that theme! Very adorable and I have great baker recommendations to fit your needs!

I always like to start with a couple of portraits before baby gets messy, this includes family photos as well! This gives them a chance to warm up to me. I always recommend the session to start in the AM for best lighting and happy little one. We all know that our little ones have, what’s called witching hour so definitely morning is best. If you are having fun, your baby will most likely have fun as well!

Northern Virginia Family Photographer | Warrenton Virginia Maternity Session

I’m SO excited to share this sweet Warrenton Virginia Maternity session on the blog today! For each of my clients I always meet with them to learn more about what they’re envisioning in their session. I was so excited to learn about Shannon and how she wanted to incorporate the school she works at into her session!

I have never been to Warrenton, Virginia but I was SO excited to learn its history and visit the cute town that Shannon holds dear to her heart. This historic town had so many cute spots, I definitely will be returning! First stop was the cute Warrenton Middle School itself, which was founded in 1936! How crazy! From there, we headed to down town where Warrenton has beautiful graffiti art on the walls, which I love, and added uniqueness to the session! We ended our night at Warrenton Branch Greenway which is a historic train and bridge, which Penn LOVED! It was definitely the cherry on top!

Every maternity session I ALWAYS encourage my mama’s to choose a meaningful location to them. This session was exactly THAT for Shannon and her sweet son Penn.
