What’s the difference between in-home and studio newborn photography?

So there are differently benefits to both types of newborn sessions, just depends on how you wish to capture your baby. As someone who offers both types of sessions, you get the best of both worlds.

In-home sessions are great because it allows you to capture your newborn baby in the first home you brought your baby to. This also allows you to capture your baby in the nursery, extra special if you decided to decorate their space. The biggest perk is that you don’t have to leave and travel anywhere. It’s one less thing you have to worry about, because you have everything there you need to keep your sweet baby happy. Only prep for in-home sessions is making sure your spaces that have the best natural light is clear of clutter.

Studio photography does have its perks as well. Although you do need to travel for these, if you’re looking for a neutral space with great lighting then this option is perfect for you. A client wardrobe is offered as well so you can feel your best in the studio space. Accessories and props are included as well. Bonus point is that you don’t have to learn your home prior to the session day, let's be honest, I don’t think I cleaned when I came home from the hospital.

Does This Photographer Supply Any Props or Outfits?

I’ve been a Newborn Photographer in Augusta, GA for quite awhile, and I know as a new mom, sometimes I’d like to not have to worry about anything like props, outfits and accessories. So being able to supply many options for my clients is just one of the many things I like to take off my clients plate.

However you are more than welcome to bring anything you’d want to include in the session. Sentimental items are always welcomed and make your portraits that more special.

What Should You Bring to the Augusta, GA Newborn Photography Session?

Every photographer is going to have things they recommend. For me though, I only recommend items I don’t already have. My home studio is stocked with wipes, diapers, burp clothes, and extra pacifiers. If you are breastfeeding or formula feeding then definitely bring those, as only mama can supply food for her newborn baby. If you have anything sentimental like a special blanket or outfit then bring those as well!

Does Your Photographer Do Indoor and Outdoor Photo Sessions?

Finding a newborn photographer who does both indoor and outdoor portraits can be difficult to find. But you’re in luck, because I happened to offer both! Some mamas prefer the studio because Georgia weather is very humid and lots of bugs, but if you happen to have a fall baby, fall is beautiful time to photograph newborns and their family. Which ever you decide, I’m here to help!

Do They Offer Photo Prints or Only Digital Copies?

In today’s day and age many people download their photos onto their phone or computer and call it a day. However, someone who missed out on capturing her first son, I prefer classic prints and heirloom albums so not only do you get to flip through those memories for years to come, your children can enjoy them as well. I think its so important to offer both options for my clients so they can have digital copies on hand but also being able to enjoy them though tangible prints.

I’m sure you have so many more questions as a soon-to-be-mama, so don’t hesitate to reach out! I’m here to help and ease your stress when finding the right newborn photographer for you. If you have any questions, please contact me, I’ll gladly answer any questions you may have. Looking forward to being your newborn photographer in Augusta, GA.

Why I Chose to be a Newborn Photographer in Augusta, GA

Hey mamas! I wanted this weeks post to be a bit more personal and give you some background into my story. I want you to know that when you hire me, you’re hiring someone who isn’t just taking photos for money. Unfortunately, photography is often seen as an “easy” field and many get into it for that reason. For me though, newborn photography in Augusta, GA is so much more that!

It was 2014 when I first started my journey into being a professional photographer. Initially, I was actually a wedding photographer! I enjoyed wedding photography as it was filled with so much love and laughter. I was able to capture some incredible moments between brides, grooms, families, and kids! However, weddings as I’m sure you know, can last anywhere from 8-12 hours. They’re all day events between the ceremony and the reception. Whereas that was fine for me when I was first starting out, it quickly became a problem when I had my son Michael in 2017!

Working 12 hour wedding days while trying to raise a newborn was taxing. It took a toll on me both mentally and physically, especially because I was breast feeding at the time. So, I had to be sure he had enough food from me to be gone for 12 hours at a time. It honestly just became too stressful and I decided I needed something that was a little bit more flexible. So, I decided in 2017 to make the switch from a wedding photographer to a newborn photographer!

Making the switch to newborn photography in Augusta, GA

I have always absolutely adored kiddos! Newborns in particular though are very near and dear to my heart. That first year of their life goes by way too quick. They grow and develop so fast that if you’re not there to see it, it’s truly gone in the blink of an eye. This was when I realized how important newborn photography is.

Knowing how delicate and fragile newborn babies are, I decided to invest into newborn mentoring with one of the best newborn photographers in the Washington D.C. area. Your baby’s safety is my number one priority. The 1:1 hands-on mentoring with Stephanie really helped me to safely pose a newborn baby; a skill that should never be attained by watching tutorials online or through a learning by doing mentality. I am grateful to be among the top newborn photographers in the Atlanta and Charleston, SC area.

A contributing factor to my decision to switch to newborn photography was also the simple fact that I never got newborn photos taken of my son when he was born. All of the photos I have of him are on my phone and I would be crushed if they ever got lost. These images on my phone are all I have of him during that age and that’s just not enough sometimes. I want to provide mother’s with beautiful photos of their little one that I then have printed for you in a heirloom album. You also get the digital copy so that you have a backup! These moments deserve to be preserved and I am honored to be able to do so for you!

I also get the opportunity to capture your little one during this fast-moving stage of life. I get to provide you with prints of your sweet baby all curled up on your bed, swaddled in your arms, taking a nap on the couch, and you have those photos forever! Newborn photography acts as a time capsule, providing you with snapshots of a time all moms wish lasted just a little bit longer.

So, enough about me! I want to hear about you and your little one! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to schedule an in-home newborn photography session in Columbia, SC and Augusta, GA!
